A big congratulations to OnCourse team member Tim, who became a father today, less than a week before his own birthday! Tim is known around here for his ability to balance a chair on his chin; now we'll see how well he can balance programming on top of a month of no sleep :)
To Tim and his new family; a million wishes of love and health from all of us here at OnCourse HQ!!

Action Dashboard!
If you've logged into OnCourse recently, you might have noticed some new changes starting to creep in. We haven't formally introduced them yet, but that didn't stop some of you curious folks from discovering the brand-new Action Dashboard and sticking widgets all over your homepages!

Ok, it's not really called the Action Dashboard. And if you don't know what a widget is, its basically a small, on-screen tool that attaches to some bigger program, and it normally holds some type of fun or interesting content. You might have seen them on Windows Vista, Facebook, or iGoogle.
For example, on your OnCourse Homepage now, you can add a Weather widget, a To-Do List widget, a Scholastic Administrator News widget, and a Sticky-Notes widget. You can add, organize, and remove them with your mouse, and you'll still have access to all the old panes that you used to have (Programs/Announcements/Calendars).
Now, this might seem frivolous to some people, but trust me when I say that there are some really awesome widgets in the oven. For instance, a Discipline Administrator using our tracking system will be have a widget that tells them all of the discipline incidents that have been logged in school that day. An attendance clerk can have a widget that shows them the Daily Absent List at a glance. A teacher can add a widget that shows them all of the items on their calendar for the current day.
These things are going to be extremely useful, and as always, we are excited to hear any ideas you have about widgets that would make your ed-tech experience more productive, more interesting, or even more fun!
So for today's Tip, I'll answer a question I got at the Support Desk today (thank you LD!)
Tip of the Day: Adding and Configuring the Weather Widget
- To add any type of widget to your Dashboard, just click the Add Content button on your homescreen. Pick the type of widget you want, and click the Add button.
- This will drop the widget onto your Home Screen, and you can move it and change its height with your mouse.
- Any widget properties can be accessed with the Gear button, which is the small button directly the left of the X; if you want to change the city in the Weather widget, just click the Gear, choose Properties, and change the Location.

As our new changes come out, I'll be keeping you up to date here in the blog, and there are also some new How-To Videos on the way. As always, you can send questions to me at support@oncoursesystems.com!
