The Physical Education program at Henry E. Harris School is designed to provide all students with a foundation of quality movement and fitness experiences that will eventually lead to active and healthy lifestyles.  Carefully selected, created and modified movement experiences that apply to lifetime skills are the foundation of the physical education program.

 

     Students will be provided with educational experiences that will meet objectives set forth by state and district standards.  Each activity is employed to help students achieve competency in a variety of skills, regardless of their ability.
Pre K, K, 1 and 2
Develop basic manipulative skills along with the development of basic
strength, endurance, and coordination of large body muscles.
3, 4, and 5 
The emphasis will continue on strength, endurance, and coordination while
gradually shifting from basic skills to a specific sport skill, fitness, and 
cooperative challenges.
6, 7, and 8 
A planned program of activities that range from team and individual sports,
fitness, lifetime, and cooperative challenges.

Assessment
The physical education grade that appears on the report card represents an average for preparedness, participation, attitude, sportsmanship and content knowledge for all activities during the marking period.

  • School gym uniform and sneakers
  • each student shall participate fully to the best of their ability.
  • students will be assessed on their understanding of rules, safety and strategy involved in activities.
  • teacher - made tests and written assignments
  • a fitness test will also be administered twice a year beginning in the 4th grade.
