Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! I am so excited to meet you and your students. We have a wonderful class. :)
This year we will learn so many things. We will be using a wonderful reading series called ReadWell that gives us lots of practice reading words and sentences. It also teaches us a lot about science. We will be using Saxon Phonics to make sure we know how to sound out words and learning over 100 of the most common sight words. By the end of kindergarten, we will all be amazed at how well our students will be reading. This quarter in math, we concentrate on understanding lots of ways to make the numbers 0-5. By the end of the year, we will be able to count to 100 and tell which numbers are larger (greater) and smaller (less than) others. We will learn shapes that are flat and 3 dimensional. We will learn addition and subtraction up to at least 12 and perhaps 20. We will work hard on using the calendar and understanding the order of the days of the week and the months of the year. We have lots of computer programs to support what we learn in our classroom and we will work in small cooperative groups to give every student a chance shine!
Please help your students practice their sight words. I will be sending home a folder with the whole year of sight words and ReadWell stories on paper and CD to match.
Welcome to kindergarten! I look forward to a terrific year of supporting your child learning and growing!
Sincerely,
Ms. Fisher
