Welcome to Sixth Grade
Welcome to Mrs. Young's 6th grade reading and language arts class.
Course Overview
This year we will be working on reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar skills. We will be covering the 6th grade Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS). These may be viewed online on the CPALMS website URL: http://www.cpalms.org. The curriculum will focus on many different reading and writing skills and tasks including short and extended response questions, text-based essay writing (both expository and argumentative), research and technology skills, written language conventions, oral presentations, vocabulary development, and reading and responding to complex text with an emphasis on close reading.
Textbooks and Programs
Intensive reading/language arts classes will be using the Inside textbook published by National Geographic Learning. All other classes will be using the Collections textbook published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Additionally, class novels and the online reading program TeenBiz Achieve 3000 will be used.
Accelerated Reader
Independent reading is essential to reading growth. Please be sure that you are reading 20- 30 minutes daily.
