This section applies to public access to OnCourse that does not require the user to logged into the OnCourse Services. OnCourse collects certain Personally Identifiable Information through its public websites when you choose to submit such information to us through an online form, email, or other method. This section applies to users of the OnCourse Services. If you only use our public sites, this section does not apply to you. When hosting an OnCourse Services for a school, school district, or other organization (collectively, the “Schools”), OnCourse collects and subsequently processes Personally Identifiable Information provided by either or both the End Users or the School. When you as an End User provide information within an OnCourse Services, it becomes immediately accessible to and controlled by the School using the OnCourse Services.
With respect to Schools using the OnCourse Analytics module (and only with respect to such Schools), personally identifiable information may be transmitted to the third party that hosts the Analytics module. This third party has contracted with us to use such personally identifiable information to host the Analytics module and will not further disclose such personally identifiable information except as required by law, permitted by us, or stated in this Privacy Policy.
Except as described in this Privacy Policy, we will not otherwise, in any manner, transmit the information you provide via the OnCourse Services to any third parties, unless we have to disclose it to comply with legal requirements, or in exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of an OnCourse End User.
OnCourse’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy , including the Limited Use requirements.
If you are not of legal age to form a binding contract (in many jurisdictions, this age is 18), you may only use the Services and disclose information to us with your parent’s or guardian’s express consent. Review this Privacy Policy with your parent or guardian and make sure you understand it, and do the same with the privacy policies of all websites you visit or mobile applications you use.
NOTE TO PARENTS.
We are required under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), with limited exceptions, to obtain verifiable parental consent in order to collect, use or disclose personal information from Children. COPPA allows the Child’s School to obtain consent for the online collection of personal information from Children who are students of the School.
If a Child wants to use our Service, he/she must first obtain an account for our Services from the School (“ACCOUNT”). Before an Account is provided to a School, we require that the School (on behalf of the Child’s parent or legal guardian (“PARENT”) (a) to consent to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information of the Child, through the Service, in accordance with this Privacy Policy, and (b) agree that the Child’s online activities are subject to our terms of service.
As required under COPPA, we allow Parents to make certain choices regarding the personal information submitted by their Children as described in this subsection. Parents can review or have deleted their children’s information, as well as refuse to permit further collection or use of their children’s information. Parents should make any permitted requests with the School and have the School, as the Parent’s agent, pass on those requests to us. We may rely on the instructions that we receive from the School that we reasonably believe are given by a Child’s Parent to the School. For example, if a representative of the Child’s School contacts us and provides the Account information we request, we may assume that the person calling is acting on behalf of the Child’s Parent.
We may also collect information that does not reveal your specific identity or does not directly relate to an individual (“Other Information”). This Other Information may include browser and device information, information collected through cookies, pixel tags, and other technologies, demographic information and other information provided by you, and aggregated information.
To ensure that our Sites and the Services functions properly for all users, we use certain information that is collected by most browsers or automatically through your device. Such things may include whether you are using a Macintosh or Windows computer, your device manufacturer and model, and your Internet browser type and version.
Cookies are pieces of information stored directly on the computer that you are using. OnCourse uses Google Analytics, a third party service, to collect anonymous visitor data on our network of sites. The Google Analytics service does not collect any personal information such as names, ages, phone numbers, addresses or e-mail addresses from visitors to the Site. Your “IP Address” is a number that is automatically assigned to the computer that you are using by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). An IP Address may be identified and logged automatically in our server log files whenever a user accesses the Sites, along with the time of the visit and the page(s) that were visited. Collecting IP Addresses is standard practice and is done automatically by many webpages, applications and other services. With respect to OnCourse Services, it is OnCourse’s corporate policy to require that the Schools to which we transmit your Personally Identifiable Information agree to comply with our Privacy Policy. OnCourse protects Personally Identifiable Information from unauthorized disclosure and complies with all applicable State and Federal confidentiality laws and regulations including but not limited to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
We protect your information when it is received by and sent from OnCourse. We use “encryption” for this purpose, which is the primary means for providing confidentiality for information sent over the internet. When you utilize your web browser to access OnCourse, you do so using Transport Layer Security (TLS), which is a protocol designed to ensure privacy between applications and their users on the Internet. TLS is the successor to the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. TLS automatically encrypts and protects your communications with OnCourse at a minimum of 112 up to 256 bits, which are the standards for commercial Internet transactions. OnCourse will default to the highest standards supported by the browsers that you use to access the Sites, with most modern web browsers providing the highest 256 bit support. . We do not use unsecured email transmission for Personally Identifiable Information and we discourage users from sending us such information.
